Soneva, the luxury resort juggernaut which is big on sustainability, recently unveiled 27 new overwater villas as well as a spa and a new drinks-and-dining option at its remote and impeccable Soneva Jani property in the Maldives. If by some chance the Indian Ocean retreat wasn't already on your bucket list, brook no delay.
Dubbed Soneva Jani, Chapter Two, the spot in the Noonu Atoll is equally appealing to architecture buffs and five-star jetsetters. Ranging from one to four bedrooms, the Chapter Two villas are accessible via butler-driven buggies or bikes as you prefer.
They're among the largest and most luxurious overwater villas in the world, with "indoor and outdoor living spaces and sweeping terraces with sunrise/sunset views, private pools with slides straight into the private lagoon."
That's not to mention the retractable roof over the master bed for stargazing or what-have-you, as well as outdoor bathrooms for "bathing under the sun and stars." Of course, your butler will draw the bath for you.
The resort has also re-opened its overwater restaurant, called, fittingly, Overseas that ranks as one of the most romantic dining spots on the planet. Best of all, the price of a Chapter Two villa (the one-beds start at $3,560 per night) includes meals, drinks, spa treatments, and more.
Next up will be a new Wellness Centre on Soneva Jani's South Beach, "designed to harmonize with its breathtaking beachside setting," featuring two indoor therapy rooms and three open-air treatment pavilions, as well as an Ayurvedic Clinic, cross-functional fitness area, and open-air yoga pavilion.
As Soneva celebrates its 25th anniversary this year there couldn't be a better time to go—just make sure you have a negative COVID test in hand (and a drink in the other).
