We had a look-see around Scarp Ridge Lodge after our summer hike up Crested Butte and can’t wait to get back for a stay during ski season.
From the Belgian Bluestone in the kitchen to the hand-forged metal elements throughout, the design experts at Eleven Experience who own and run the property know how to sweat the details. Walls are reclaimed wood from Midwestern barns. There’s even a system that can bring the interior oxygen levels down from Rocky Mountain highs to the equivalent of 5,000 feet.
The lodge (a former saloon that served the Croatian community in the historic mining town) is available for private group buyout and includes chef-prepared meals and all sorts of amenities like Jack Black shave and skin care products in the bathrooms and car service to and from the slopes.
When you arrive there will be a drinks bucket next to the rooftop hot tub, and the staff will have inscribed your names on the individual ski lockers on the ground floor. Not bad.
You can have dibs on one of the king suites; we prefer the three-level bunk room that was inspired by the board game "Chutes and Ladders."
