The Five Best Small Luxury Hotels in the World
Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), calls itself "the most desirable community of independently-minded travelers and independently-spirited luxury hotels in the world," and having visited a number of their impeccable properties across the globe we couldn't agree more. Focusing on "the distinctive, the diverse and the downright delightful," SLH's alliance includes over 520 hotels in more than 90 countries, each and every one of them well worth adding to your itinerary.
SLH just announced the winners of its SLH Awards 2020, honoring the very best among its many must-visit destinations across a number of categories. Italy's Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda took home the top Hotel of the Year award for "creating a haven for body, mind, soul, and conscience" on the shores of Lake Garda. Here we highlight some of our favorites:
Without a doubt one of the coolest and most beautiful hotels in the world, this boutique luxury property in Phuket received Highly Commended honors in the Resort Hotel of the Year category.
Pimalai Resort & Spa, Thailand
Thailand is also the site of the eye-popping Pimalai Resort & Spa, which won Highly Commended honors in the Mystery Inspectors' Award class. For this category 100 SLH inspectors anonymously evaluated every hotel on their roster.
The exceptionally cool Sentinel Suite at Cap Rocat in Mallorca captured Most Intimate Bedroom honors. Housed in an imposing 19th Century military fortress, this place would make 007 feel right at home.
Winning Highly Commended honors in the Country House Hotel of the Year class, Stein Eriksen Residences in Park City, Utah, is everything we ever wanted in a luxe winter retreat.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, the incredibly alluring tropical escape that is Velassaru was Highly Commended in the INVITED Hotel of the Year category, selected by members of SLH’s INVITED VIP loyalty program. That's the kind of club we want to belong to.
