Back in the '70s, Ash Wall, the Vice President of Brooks Brothers, walked into a factory and picked up a 'training shirt' that trainees use to practice their sewing. It was clad with mismatched fabric scraps, and when he tried it on, he loved it, and it immediately became a cult icon.
Today, you can scour eBay or a vintage store for a Fun Shirt, as it was known to be called, in its original, iconic colorway. If you're lucky, you might find one. And if you're very lucky, you'll find one in your size.
Thankfully, there's an easier, fresher way to get the shirt in your life: Rowing Blazers, the menswear label founded in New York City in 2017 by author, archaeologist, and U.S. national team rower Jack Carlson, and, his girlfriend, national champion oarswoman Keziah Beall, recreated their own version.
Produced right here in the USA and crafted from 100% cotton Broadcloth, it's finished with a soft S-roll button-down collar and modern cut that's neither too trim or too baggy. In other words: the ideal shirt.
Perfectly paired with a devil may care attitude all summer long, head here to score your own and never look back.
