Los Angeles-based designer John Elliott and his namesake label just unleashed the coolest overcoat we've ever seen in some time, if not ever. The check pattern hits all the right notes, the unstructured and intentionally oversized fit is perfect, and the three-layer virgin wool blend construction drips with quality. But it's the unfinished raw edges that really take this to the next level, adding a rebellious presence to the outerwear staple.
Pairing well with anything from sweatpants and sneakers to denim and Chelsea boots, it arrives in both a light grey check with hits of red as well as a black and navy check that can be dressed up a little easier.
The overcoat has been trending over the last few seasons with the sartorially savvy but it's a look that's easy to go wrong with. Too stuffy, too 90s Wall Street, too I-borrowed-this-from-my-dads-closet. Skip the potential misstep and go with your best play right here.
