"Worn by supermodels in London and dads in Ohio," New Balance proudly proclaims while announcing the new 990v5 sneaker, an updated version of the popular 990 silhouette. It's a line that shouldn't work, but does, and oddly captures what makes New Balance so special. It's everywhere and for everyone and can be made cool as easily as it can be made uncool.
Originally released in 1982 and the first athletic sneaker to ever be sold for more than $100, the updated version features the same premium pig suede and mesh upper with 360 reflective accents along with new elements like a TPU power strap, updated Ortholite insert, and modernized badging included on the tongue and foxing.
Set to release in North America beginning April 6 and globally May 4, it will retail for $175 and be offered in grey, navy, and black colorways.
