Some key elements of Panerai's extremely cool heritage come together in the new Luminor California 8 Days DLC, one of the most unique and tough-looking timepieces ever created by the iconic Italian brand.

Priced at $7,700, the 44mm case is made of titanium coated with DLC (diamond-like carbon) offset by a vintage "California" dial as seen on some of Panerai's earliest watches and a saddle leather strap.

The hour and minute hands are oxidized at a controlled temperature to impart a particular metallic blue, another nod to Panerai heritage. The cuff strap is untreated so that it will acquire patina with wear. A classic black rubber strap is also included.

And it's powered by the in-house, hand-wound P.5000 calibre with a power reserve of eight days, "inspired some of the historic watches created by Panerai for the frogmen of Italian Navy," as the company notes.
