If you’re someone who scowls at the idea of Siri and voice-enabled assistants, stop reading and go back to checking the weather app manually and looking up directions on Mapquest. For those of you who have figured out that using digital assistants can save you loads of time, making you more productive, efficient and Limitless-esque, let’s talk about ONVocal's OV.
At first glance, they’re slick earbuds and a pronounced microphone but it’s what’s inside that counts. OV integrates with Siri, Google, and Alexa, but it’s with Alexa that OV really shines, especially if you have an Amazon Prime Music account (iHeartRadio and TuneIn are also supported). Since they’re smart headphones, they’re essentially portable Alexas, meaning you can order anything from anywhere, manage smart home devices and play music from multiple services. And all this without having to take your phone out of your pocket, reducing your daily chances of getting distracted by a text or Instagram notification. It’s like Siri 2.0, or your own personal (non-lethal) HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
There are three sound controls, ambient, voice and chat, that are as intuitive as they are simple to activate, either with a quick voice command or the push of a button. You can further customize the settings by downloading the OV App and save as presets.
None of this would matter if they weren’t such a damn good set of cans in the first place. The engineers behind the audio are no slouches, as the OV provides one of the better earbud listening experiences you’ll have this year. And they feel much better too- flex zones in the arms of the neckband and the base of the microphone make for easy adjustment for maximum comfort.
They’re available now for a cool $399, a small price to pay when you think of all the potential time you could save just by using your voice.
