NASA's Stylish Survival Knife Is Now Available to Purchase

Publish date:

Military knives weren't right for use in manned spacecraft, so NASA got in touch with knifemaker W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company to make a special design just for them. The result? The Astronaut Knife M-1, which was on board every Gemini and Apollo mission and stowed inside the ship’s Command Module as part of a survival pack.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11's moon landing, the company carefully crafted a reissued reproduction of the knife that features a high carbon stainless steel machete blade and a smooth white synthetic handle. It spans a total of 17 inches from base to blade tip and weighs just 10.8 ounces.

Not only beautiful and effective but dripping with a special sense of wonder and adventure only something that's been through space could provide, head here to add it to your own survival pack.
