Military knives weren't right for use in a manned spacecraft, so NASA got in touch with knifemaker W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company to make a special design just for them. The result is the Astronaut Knife M-1, which was onboard every Gemini and Apollo mission and stowed inside the ship’s Command Module as part of a survival pack.

Last year, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, the company carefully crafted a reissued reproduction of the knife that features a high carbon stainless steel machete blade and a smooth white synthetic handle. It's beautiful — and drips with a special sense of wonder and adventure only something that's space-ready can provide — but naturally sold out near-instantly leaving most AIROWS readers high and dry. Thankfully though, it's finally back in stock and ready for your own survival pack right here
