The flashier watch brands stole the show at SIHH with their minute repeaters and tourbillons, but one of our favorite pieces is also one of the most understated: the Carré H “Architect’s Watch” on an all-new leather racing strap, some seriously handsome kit from famed French luxury goods house Hermès.
Sporting Hermès' signature equestrian-inspired aesthetics but with a Modernist watch face that's a nod to architecture and design, the watch is available in black with red accents or anthracite grey with yellow accents. The Carré H's 38mm square case is made of polished and bead-blasted steel with rounded angles, while the dial has luminescent hands and numerals topped by a cylindrical crystal.
The black or natural Barenia calfskin rally-style perforated straps "reflect the circular geometry of the display", while the yellow and red highlights match the seconds hand that sweeps around the black or grey guilloché, finely grained dials. And to top it off the $7,450 watch is equipped with a mechanical self-winding movement. Out later this year.
