In the run-up to BaselWorld 2016 Glashütte Original has unveiled a cool new version of its iconic Senator Chronometer in white gold with dashing dark blue dial. The dial of the German watchmaker’s latest creation is inspired by the marine chronometers of the past that ship captains would use to keep track of time on long voyages.
The dial is painstakingly lacquered in several coats to achieve the precise shade and texture. The elaborate dial also features a railroad chapter ring and indexes and numerals finely engraved and galvanized in silver.
It’s presented in a newly designed white gold case with the Senator line's characteristic slim bezel. It features Glashütte’s signature Panorama Date at 3 o'clock, along with a separate day-night display positioned in a round opening above the centre and a power reserve indicator.
The functions are powered by the company’s sophisticated in-house manual wind Calibre 58-01 movement. A sapphire crystal case back allows the wearer to glimpse the beautiful inner workings of the watch.
To complement the case and dial the chronometer comes on a midnight blue Louisiana alligator leather strap with a white gold foldover clasp. The overall effect is of classical elegance with a sporty edge, and the price is suitably impressive at $32,200.
