The 17-year-old straight rye whiskey, priced at $499, is part of its ongoing and extremely popular Boss Hog line, which kicked off seven years ago and remains one of the hottest bottles in whiskey each year. This time around, they opted to finish the elixir in rare Spanish Oak followed by a second finish in South American Teakwood casks. This not only adds intense spiciness with each sip but rich notes of baking spices and a sweet, toasted character.
Its name — Magellan's Atlantic — is inspired by the first-ever circumnavigation of the earth, where, in 1519, an intrepid crew set sail from Spain before eventually making landfall in present-day Brazil. Nowadays, the natural sea voyage is known as The Strait of Magellan, bearing the captain's name.
Available in extremely limited quantities, the 750ml bottle (which clocks in between 105.1 and 107.8 proof) is presented in an eye-popping gift box documenting the quest and finished off with a collectible pewter topper depicting Magellan as a pig in traditional Spanish dress. A variety of premium liquor stores will be able to get their hands on a few bottles but to play it safe, we suggest pre-ordering right here.
