The Luxardo brand is well known to cocktail connoisseurs; founded in Italy's Dalmatia in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo, and still family owned, its famed marasca cherry products are considered essential by most mixologists. Now the fabled label is debuting a new spirit that's sure to engender equal delight.
Assured of finding a place on every respectable bar next to its Maraschino Liqueur and Original Maraschino Cherries, Luxardo London Dry Gin is a juniper-forward tipple that follows a family recipe dating back to 1833—nearly 200 years ago.
As with all Luxardo products, the design of the bottle stands out for its elegance and retro Italian flare, and makes a handsome addition to any home bar where negronis and gin and tonics are frequently mixed.
The bottle’s label design references the Luxardo family’s heritage in Zara and Torreglia, Italy, paying homage to where the juniper distillate recipe was first conceptualized and later produced, the brand notes.
Their London Dry Gin "employs a careful selection" of nine botanicals, including juniper, coriander, iris, angelica, licorice, cinchona, cinnamon, cardamom, and bitter orange, which are infused for 24 hours in a traditional copper pot still prior to distillation and bottling at 86 proof.
The resulting spirit features a "pronounced juniper, orange, violet, and black tea flavor, with gentle notes of spice and ginger and a somewhat citrusy aftertaste." For a twist on the classic negroni, Luxardo suggests mixing the gin with Luxardo Bitter Bianco, their proprietary clear bitter liqueur, and bianco vermouth, to create a white negroni.
Sounds like a new summer favorite to us.
