Each year, Laphroaig distillery manager, John Campbell, crafts a new version of Cairdeas (which means friendship in Gaelic) whisky to honor the nearly 700,000 strong Friends of Laphroaig community. And the annual Cairdeas expression for 2018 — Laphroaig Cairdeas Fino Cask — is set to hit shelves this month.
This time around, the whisky is first filled in bourbon barrels before being finished in Fino Sherry casks. This results in the same full-bodied, peaty finish you know and love from Laphroaig but with some interesting and unexpected notes like toasted almonds, dried fruit and sea salt.
The 103.6 proof whisky is set to release nationwide throughout August with a suggested MSRP of $79. Of course, these expressions don't stick around long, so you might need to put in a little extra legwork to get this in your life. Happy hunting.
