You might have heard that everything's bigger in Texas. That goes for the whisky too, at least if you're buying "cowboy bourbon" from Garrison Brothers of Hye, that is. For 2016 the award-winning micro-distillery is setting aside 300 barrels of 3–5 year old whisky for sale by the barrel only to gents who are serious about what they sip.
As part of their Single Barrel Bourbon program, Garrison Bros., the first legal distillery out of Texas, is inviting buyers to their ranch / distillery to sample the available barrels and choose the one they want.
Each barrel has a different flavor profile and yields anywhere between 48 and 81 bottles depending on the "angel’s share" evaporation during the spirit's 3-5 years of maturation in American white oak.
The bourbon, which has won accolades from the American Craft Spirits Competition among others is made from organic Panhandle corn, soft red winter wheat, two-row malted barley and pure Texas Hill Country rainwater.
The buyer gets all the bottles the barrel yields plus the barrel itself and each bottle is customized for them. Pricing runs from $5,000 – $8,000 per barrel depending on how many bottles it yields, but on average it works out to about $109 a bottle.
The bragging rights however are of course priceless.
