Netflix's New Heist Series Is 'Ocean's 11' Meets Bond
With so many new shows dropping on Netflix each week, it's hard to know what is actually worth your time. But Lupin – a new French caper series from the streaming platform, which kicks off with a heist at The Louvre – is something you don't want to sleep on.
Extremely polished and glamorous with a feel that's part Ocean's 11 and part James Bond with a hint of Sherlock Holmes, the series stars Omar Sy (Jurassic World, X-Men: Days of Future Past) as Assane Diop, a con man, master of disguise, and gentleman thief. Sy feels like a young Idris Elba in the role, with a smirking grace and sly sophistication. And though the series and its lead are heavily inspired by French literary character Arsène Lupin from novelist Maurice Leblanc, it's a twisty and original story that builds and remixes the lore rather than retells it. (The popular Japanese manga series, Lupin the III, is also based on the Leblanc novels.)
A classic cocktail of everything we love in film and television, queue it up stat and enjoy.
