The Hollywood Reporter just broke the news that a new animated Batman series is heading to HBO Max, which will be spearheaded by J.J. Abrams and The Batman director Matt Reeves. And perhaps most interesting of all, animator Bruce Trimm from Batman: The Animated Series will be helping add a distinct, noir-inspired vibe.
Titled Batman: Caped Crusader, it was given a straight-to-series order and should land on the streaming platform sometime in 2022. “Batman: The Animated Series was a masterpiece that shaped the perception of the character for an entire generation of fans,” says Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register. “It is in that spirit that we are bringing together three master storytellers in J.J., Matt, and Bruce – each with their own intuitive understanding and affection for the character – to create a new series that will continue in the same groundbreaking legacy.”
