Rejoice, people. Legendary and Warner Bros. officially announced that Dune: Part Two will start production shortly, with an expected theatrical date scheduled for Oct. 2023. Director and co-screenwriter Denis Villeneuve will be returning, as will much of the core cast. However, we'll refrain from saying who is, and isn't, due to potential spoilers for those who haven't seen the first film or read the legendary Frank Herbert novel.
This — usually — would be obvious news. But Villeneuve revealed in a conversation with Christopher Nolan that there were sincere reservations from the studio side. "You know you’re always as good as your last movie," he told Nolan. "And I think Blade Runner wasn’t a major box office success. I think they were a little cold at the idea of investing in two movies right away. I think that’s the truth I understood."
