The Maserati GranTurismo MC Will Set Fire to Race Tracks in 2016

Going hell-for-leather in the GT4 Championships.

The Maserati Trofeo World Series gave enthusiasts of the marque a taste for track day racing. Now the legendary Italian sports car brand has announced it will compete in the 2016 GT4 Championships, allowing gentleman racers the chance to pit their gorgeous GranTurismo MC's against the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage, BMW Z4, Lotus Evora, Porsche Cayman, and suprisingly successful Chevrolet Camaro GT4.

This marks Maserati's first foray into international competition since a test run in the 2014 European GT4 Series. The marque will enter both the US Pirelli World Challenge and the European GT4 championships for the 2016 season; 10 different teams running over 20 cars have already confirmed their participation and ponied up the necessary cash.

In addition to providing technical support and replacement parts for the teams that take part in the main series, Maserati will present a special award for the best driver and team heading into international competition. Since the FIA requires all cars have near identical performance levels, the GranTurismo MC's power actually had to be limited to allow it to compete. If looks are anything to go by however it'll blow past the rest of the field just the same....
