One of the most legendary cars in automotive history is heading to the auction block in Pebble Beach thanks to Gooding & Company.
First used by Porsche in 1970, this gorgeously iconic 917K won Le Mans and was later sold to Porsche factory driver Jo Sifferet, who in turn leased it to Steve McQueen's Solar Productions for use in the 1971 classic Le Mans. After its Hollywood period, the ride moved back to Sifferet's private collection before being sold to a private collector in Paris in the mid-1970s following his death.
For about 25 years, the ride essentially disappeared, before it emerged from a jaw-dropping Paris warehouse "barn find" in 2001. It has since been incredibly restored by the best in the business, with handsome looks to spare and its recognizable livery on full display.
Expected to fetch between $13,000,000-$16,000,000 on the block, this is truly a motoring crown jewel. Cheers to the bidder bold (and tasteful) enough to pull the trigger and acquire.
