Mercedes-AMG, the famed German automaker's high performance division, headquartered in Affalterbach and known for building some of the world's finest, fastest and most desirable vehicles, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017.

To commemorate the occasion we've put together the 10 greatest moments in AMG history:

1.) Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL "Red Pig"

The 300 SEL 6.8 tuned by AMG won its class at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race. With a top speed of 142 miles per hour the "Red Pig became" famous as “the world’s fastest sedan”.

2.) Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR

Intended for racing in the new FIA GT Championship series in 1997, which it won. Hardly surprising considering it packed a a 612 hp 6.9-liter V12 with a top speed of 198 mph.

3.) Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM

The CLK-GTR was upgraded in 1998 for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and renamed the CLK-LM. Victory proved elusive, but upon returning to FIA GT the CLK-LM was unstoppable.

4.) Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

Jointly developed by Mercedes and McLaren, with power courtesy of AMG, variations were built from 2003-2010 including the $1 million-plus SLR Stirling Moss roadster.

5.) Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG

In 2006 Mercedes introduced a super-high performance version of the iconic G-Wagen, featuring a supercharged 493 hp AMG engine.

6.) Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Unveiled in 2009, the SLS AMG was the first vehicle to be developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. An "E-Cell" electric prototype (above) debuted in 2013.

7.) Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6X6

Making its debut in 2013, the insanely muscular off-roader was quickly adopted by Instagram celebrity Dan Bilzerian and sheikhs with their own Middle Eastern fiefdoms.

8.) Mercedes-AMG GT

The slightly more accessible successor to the SLS AMG was unveiled in 2014 and also developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach. A thrill to drive.

9.) Mercedes-AMG Vision Gran Turismo

Also in 2014 Mercedes unveiled its Vision Gran Turismo concept for Gran Turismo 6, constructing an actual prototype instead of just a CGI rendering, and thus paving the way for future AMG cars.

10.) Mercedes-AMG GT R

The latest, and fastest, iteration of the AMG GT (along with the AMG GT3 racer), it features the most motorsport technology of any AMG production vehicle as well as the new signature AMG Panamericana grille. Here's to another hundred years....
