They just celebrated their 90th anniversary at Ducati, the world's coolest motorcycle brand and the epitome of all things fast, sexy and Italian. Even if you don't have one in the garage, you can get some of the same thrills from a copy of Stile Ducati: A Visual History of Ducati Design, a cool new coffee table tome published by Italy's Skira and available on Amazon Prime for just $57.
Starting with just three employees in a dark workshop in Bologna in 1926, a decade later Ducati had a workforce of 1200 and was well on its way to global domination.
Avant-garde engineering has of course always been the driving force, but style has played an equally important part in the development of Ducati, as the new book brings home.
"Since the day we started manufacturing engines and motorcycles, design has represented a key aspect of the approach we adopt," notes Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali in the preface.
"All you can do is fall in love with a Ducati," adds Ducati Design Director Andrea Ferraresi. "Time and time again. When you see one in a photo. When you get on it and touch it. When you open the garage and there it is, waiting for you every morning. When you get on and ride off."
Especially when you get on and ride off....
