Approximately 100 automobiles of various vintages just crossed the auction block in Connecticut at Bonhams' Greenwich Concours d'Elegance Auction, held during the annual classic car show and increasingly a top destination for collectors worldwide.
“While not as globally known as their Carmel, Amelia Island or Scottsdale auctions, the Bonhams’ Greenwich sale seems to get better and better each year," Jared Zaugg, author of Gentlemen, Start Your Engines! The Bonhams Guide to Classic Race and Sports Cars tells AIROWS. "It’s smaller and more casual, convenient – just 30 miles from New York City – and offers a fantastic selection of classics, most without reserve. It sounds cliché but there’s really something for everyone here.”
From Alfa Romeo to Bentley, Jaguar and more, iconic sports cars in roadster, cabriolet and coupe form, at a wide spectrum of price points, were up for bid, showing that even with all the attention you can still score something exceedingly cool without robbing a bank. Here are our six favorites:
1930 Bentley 4 ½-Liter Sports Tourer
Especially appealing in Bentley's centenary year, this British Racing Green from the Golden Age of pre-war motoring could easily form the cornerstone of a world-class collection.
1957 Porsche 356A 1600 Speedster
The coolest and most covetable of all 356 variants. This beautiful example has only had two owners and is nearly identical to ones owned by Steve McQueen and James Dean.
1970 Jaguar E-Type Low Drag Lightweight Coupe
This is a recreation of the most famous E-Type racer of all time, using an original 1970 E-Type chassis. Featured in Top Gear magazine, it's just flat-out gorgeous and extremely fast.
1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale
One of two Alfas that caught our eye in the catalog, this iconic coupe with coachwork by Bertone, it looks black but is actually a dark metallic green. Ready for the historic racing circuit.
1977 Porsche 930 3.0 Turbo Carrera
This extraordinarily well-kept first generation 3.0-Liter 930 Turbo Carrera is pure Porsche perfection with a collectability factor due to the low production figures.
1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet
One of the most beautiful Alfas ever built, this early cabrio features coachwork by the famed house of Pininfarina. A historically important piece of Italian motoring history.
