Pirelli, the world famous maker of both supercar tires and sexy calendars, has teamed up with high-performance ski maker Blossom on a new pair of handmade skis for those who want the feel of a Ferrari on the slopes.
Handcrafted in the Blossom workshops in Val Chiavenna, Italy in collaboration with Pirelli engineers, the revolutionary skis feature a layer of vibration-dampening rubber that's set to change the way you schuss.
The limited edition skis, available for pre-order here at $1,500 per pair, are designed to improve performance with extra-deep sidecuts to adapt to various snow conditions for superior speed and improved handling.
They feature a wooden core with a graphite sole, a double layer of Titanal for stability, triaxial fiberglass for perfect torsion, and, most importantly, a layer of custom made Pirelli rubber compound capable of dampening up to 60% of the vibrations transferred from the terrain to the ski during descent.
Pirelli engineers vulcanized the rubber compound at extremely high temperatures to obtain a thin sheet, both for insertion as a layer within and on top of the skis.
The skis sport Pirelli's iconic stretched P logo and come in seven colors inspired by the color coding system used by Pirelli to identify its racing tires.
A limited edition of 110 pairs will be made for each color to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Pirelli Motorsport in 2017.
It's all part of the Pirelli Design project, aimed at developing specific design initiatives to make the most of Pirelli’s technological and design expertise, which above all creates beautiful, high-performance products that are the very best of their kind.
See you in the Dolomites....
