EA Sports has just revealed that 22-year-old French soccer sensation Kylian Mbappé will be the cover star of FIFA 22. He'll be going back-to-back, first gracing the cover of the famed video game franchise last year with FIFA 21. Christiano Ronaldo — his childhood idol — is the only other footballer to do that, starring on the box of both FIFA 18 and FIFA 19.
"Being on back-to-back FIFA covers is amazing," says Mbappé. "I have a very special relationship with the game and look forward to enjoying FIFA 22 alongside all of you."
The news arrives alongside the official reveal trailer for FIFA 22, which shows off the new "Hypermotion" animation system that uses a machine-learning algorithm to write new player animations on the fly based on millions of match capture data. You can check that out above. The game, meanwhile, is due out on all major platforms on Oct. 1.
